There are multiple types of currency in Sea of Thieves. Frankly, valuable assets are abound in this oceanic world. However, there’s one specific currency that doesn’t require real-world money — and it can net you some interesting rewards. We speak of doubloons, the game’s central currency. If you’re looking to get your hands on more, we’ve all the information you need.
How to Get Doubloons in Sea of Thieves
If you’re on the hunt for doubloons in Sea of Thieves, there are a few ways to get your hands on them. They’re primarily given to you when selling treasure to the right person. For example, you can sell Ritual Skulls to Larinna outside of the tavern for 10 doubloons. Larinna will also buy Ashen Chests, Ashen Keys, and Ashen Tomes. Rag and Bone Crates will also net you some as well. While all of these give you about five, The Ritual Skull and Ashen Tomes sell for 10.
You can also sail to the Reaper’s Hideout to sell these same treasures. In fact, there are a few extra treasures that can only be sold to the Reapers. Humble Gifts will net you five, Generous Gifts will net you ten, and a Reaper’s Chest will give you an astounding 25 doubloons for your troubles.
So, what do you use these doubloons for? Well, buying stuff. Certain Quests from Larnnia will cost you doubloons, and some cosmetics in outpost shops cost as well.
However, if you and a group of four find yourself with enough doubloons to start an Ashen Key and Chest quest, you might be surprised. Ashen Key and Chest Stash Voyages purchased from the Bilge Rats will spawn their stash on an outpost in your area. If you start this without leaving the island for the first time, both stashes will appear on the island you’re currently on. That is, as long as two players have enough to purchase both of the voyages. The other two crew members will have enough doubloons to purchase a second quest after turning the first one in. This puts you and your crew in a loop of cashing in Ashen items, which can be profitable for doubloons.
