The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition Isn’t Free for Previous Owners

Action RPG games are no stranger to re-releases. Consider titles like Skyrim, who have managed to be rereleased a total of 7 times since it’s original launch in 2011. The Outer Worlds is also going to get its own updated re-release of the game jam-packed with all available DLC. The updated bundle is also coming with some graphical upgrades as well. However, there is some bad news: the new version of the game isn’t going to be free to previous owners. Here are the details.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition Is a Premium Upgrade

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition Is a Premium Upgrade

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is set to launch on Marck 7, 2023. Game pages on both Epic Games Store and Steam are already available with additional details. Simply put, the new version comes with all DLC and several different improvements.

New features include graphical updates with new animations, improved performance, higher resolution environments, and overall “better graphics.” The new version also includes an increased level cap, so players can continue to build their characters further than in the original version of the game.

Aside from these major upgrades, the official website doesn’t mention many more additional upgrades to the title. However, it does mention that the game isn’t going to be a free upgrade to those who have purchased the base game and all its DLCs previously.

While this is “on brand” for the game and its themes of horrifying corporate overlords, it’s not all bad news. The silver lining is that current owners of the game won’t have to pay for the title at full price. To upgrade, they’ll only be charged 10 extra dollars to upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition of the game. This is similar to the Death Stranding re-release under the name Director’s Cut, charging an extra 10 dollars to those who owned the game on Steam.

While this may be the case for those on Steam, Obsidian hasn’t mentioned how it’s going to discount the players on Xbox or other platforms. However, those on Xbox with Game Pass will most likely be able to play the new version. That ought to help save a few extra bucks.
