Xbox Series X | How to Clear Cache

If your Xbox Series X is showing signs of slowing down, clearing your cache is one of the most effective ways of fixing it. Doing this clears any short-term data that may be clogging up the console memory, or otherwise affecting performance. As such, it’ll ensure any minor issues are ironed out nice and easily, saving you from a lengthy troubleshooting process. If you need help with the clear cache process on Xbox Series X, here’s how to do it.

How to Clear Cache on Xbox Series X|S

If you own an Xbox Series X and want to clear your cache, this is what to do. It’s different if you have an Xbox Series S, as we’ll get into later.

  1. Boot up your console, and go to the Settings menu.
  2. Select Devices and Connections, then the Blu-Ray option.
  3. Choose Persistent Storage, and then the Clear option.

Doing that will clear the cache on your Series X. It’s done differently to the Series S, as you end up using the X’s disc drive as a way to refresh the SSD. This is the method for the Series S, which would also work with a Series X if you prefer it:

  1. Load up your console and go to Settings.
  2. Select System, then Console Info.
  3. Scroll to Reset Console, but choose the Keep My Games and Apps option. This is crucial to not delete your save data!
  4. Following that, log back into your Xbox, and the cache will be cleared.

Those two methods are reasonably simple ways to clear your cache. Sadly, there’s not a dedicated option within the settings, which would make things a lot easier. Alternatively, you can fully power off your Xbox by switching it off then unplugging the power cable. However, it’s certainly more hassle than pressing a few buttons.

Whichever way you choose, clearing your cache on Xbox Series X|S will ensure it continues running smoothly for all those play sessions to come!
