Grounded is an interesting game. Taking notes from classic 80’s sci-fi films and survival crafting mechanics, players have an intriguing journey ahead of them. However, these kinds of games are more fun with friends. So, if you’re wanting to play with your buddies, you might want to know what the maximum amount of friends you can have is. Don’t worry, we’ve got the answer.
What Is the Max Players Amount in Grounded?
The max amount of players in Grounded is four. You won’t be able to play with more than four other people throughout the game.
As for why this is the case, Adam Brennecke talked about the game’s inspiration at length in an interview with Polygon in October of 2021. He stated that two players didn’t seem “enough like a party,” and that five players felt like each character didn’t get a chance to shine. Apparently, this is also where some of the 80’s inspiration for the game came into play.
Brennecke gave a lot more details behind the ideal player number, too. He said that in the ’80s there were always teams of four, such as the Ghostbusters or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also mentioned that this was the case during their pre-production of the game. He says that when it comes to gameplay, four players strike a proper balance in collecting loot and fighting enemies. The more players that get added to the game, the more complex these simple mechanics become.
So, what does this mean for players with more than three friends who want to play Grounded together? Well, it seems like you’re going to be out of luck this time. It doesn’t look like Obsidian is going to be letting players play with more than three other friends in this game. Perhaps a dedicated fan of Grounded might make a mod that will allow more than four, if they’re so determined.
