On October 26–27, 2026, Xbox players began reporting that more Original Xbox games were appearing in their console achievement histories. These listings show an empty “0/0” achievement count and 0 Gamerscore, and Microsoft has not announced that the wider rollout of Original Xbox achievements is live.

The short answer to the question most readers are asking: these games are not earning achievements yet, the 0/0 entries are not a finished feature, and replaying old games for Gamerscore right now is likely wasted effort.

What Happened

There are three separate events in this story, and they have very different levels of confirmation. Mixing them up is why so many achievement hunters are confused this week.

July 2026: Four Original Xbox games confirmed for achievements

In July 2026, Microsoft launched Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC in early release with four Original Xbox games, and said on Xbox Wire that those games would get achievement support in the coming months, with select other Original Xbox games to follow later in 2026. Those games shipped in the 2000s without achievements. The four titles named were:

  • BLiNX: The Time Sweeper
  • Conker: Live & Reloaded
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Fuzion Frenzy

Microsoft confirmed these four games directly in its July 22, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement. These four games are the only Original Xbox titles Microsoft has named for achievement support.

Later reporting from Windows Central and GamingBible, both retrieved October 27, 2026, corroborates the October sightings discussed below.

September 29, 2026: Xbox Insider notes describe “Mythic Achievements”

On September 29, 2026, Microsoft published its Xbox Insiders October 2026 console features post on news.xbox.com. Per a research summary of that post, it describes:

  • Mythic Achievements: a status awarded when you complete a game’s full original achievement set, shown with a progress bar.
  • A new “Gaming” tab where that progress appears.
  • “Add-on” labels that separate achievements added after a game’s original release from its base list.

That last item matters here. An “add-on” label provides a clean way to tag achievements added to a game years after launch. This description comes from a research summary of Microsoft’s post rather than a verbatim quote, so treat the exact wording as approximate.

Microsoft has not said in available sources that these labels were built for Original Xbox games. Still, the timing lines up with the July announcement.

October 26–27, 2026: More games show up with 0/0 and no Gamerscore

This week, players reported that many more Original Xbox games started appearing in their achievement histories. Per Windows Central, GamingBible, and a r/xbox thread, the reported titles include:

  • Destroy All Humans!
  • Full Spectrum Warrior
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Panzer Dragoon Orta
  • KOF: Neowave
  • Black
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Reporting directly supports several of these sightings. The inclusion of Black, Ninja Gaiden Black, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind relies on secondary reports, and we could not independently verify those three alongside the others.

In the reports and screenshots we reviewed, the photographed entries read “0/0” with 0 Gamerscore, and none show unlockable achievements yet.

The additional games in the October sightings have only been seen in profiles. Microsoft has said select other Original Xbox games will get achievements later in 2026, but it has not named any of those additional titles. Treat this as a list of sightings, not a list of supported games.

As of October 27, 2026, we found no post on news.xbox.com, xbox.com, or support.xbox.com saying the broader Original Xbox achievement rollout is live.

Why the 0/0 entries are showing up

Microsoft hasn’t explained it. Reporting offers two hypotheses, and neither has been confirmed by Microsoft:

  • An unfinished backend deployment. Game records may have been added to Xbox’s achievement system before the achievements themselves were switched on.
  • A database or visibility bug. The entries may simply be showing early by mistake.

Either way, a 0/0 entry means nothing to unlock yet. It does not mean your account is broken, and it does not mean you’ve lost progress.

The retroactive question

This is the part that should stop anyone from booting up Morrowind tonight. Windows Central reports that Xbox VP Jason Ronald confirmed achievements for these games won’t unlock retroactively for play that already happened. The report doesn’t include a direct quote, and we found no official Microsoft post with that wording.

If that holds, players would need to replay the games once support is turned on. It’s the only guidance on record, and it points one way: play you do before support goes live probably won’t count.

Who this affects

  • Platform: The July announcement came with the early-release launch of Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC, where the four named games became playable through the Xbox PC app. This week’s 0/0 sightings, by contrast, are in console profile achievement histories. Microsoft hasn’t listed specific console models or said which Xbox app version on Windows is required.
  • Xbox Insider: The Mythic Achievements details came from Xbox Insider release notes. Whether you need Insider enrollment to see Original Xbox achievements isn’t confirmed.
  • Cost: Available sources make no mention of a separate purchase for these achievements, and Microsoft hasn’t published pricing or licensing terms for the newly supported games. Achievements and Gamerscore otherwise remain a standard part of your Xbox profile.
  • Game ownership: Available sources don’t say how ownership or licensing will work for these older titles. That’s still an open question.

How It Stacks Up

The clearest comparison is between the confirmed list and the sighted list.

Two things stand out. First, the eight sighted games, not counting the four confirmed titles, outnumber the confirmed list two to one. Second, it reaches well past the first four games, and it may include titles from outside publishers.

If those games do get achievements, the program would be much bigger than the July announcement suggested. Microsoft hasn’t said that, though, and these sightings don’t prove it.

Achievement hunters should also know about a separate project. RetroAchievements is an unofficial, fan-run achievement system for classic games, including some Original Xbox titles. It has nothing to do with Microsoft’s rollout, and progress there won’t touch your Xbox Gamerscore. An r/originalxbox thread about “achievements for all games” covers that kind of community project, not this week’s Xbox profile sightings. Don’t confuse the two.

Our research has no sourced figures for how PlayStation or Nintendo handle achievements for their own legacy games, so we won’t stretch that comparison.

The Reaction

Reaction is still forming. No reaction posts with links were gathered for this story, and no matching Hacker News discussion turned up.

What we can point to is how the story is spreading. Players are logging sightings, as seen in the r/xbox thread, and outlets are writing it up before Microsoft has said a word. That creates a gap between how fast the news is moving and how little has been confirmed.

The open questions are reasonable ones that available sources can’t answer yet. Will third-party Original Xbox games be included? How will ownership and licensing work for games you bought on disc two decades ago? Will the Mythic Achievements progress bar count these new lists?

Our Take

Verdict: Wait. Don’t replay or buy anything for Gamerscore yet.

This isn’t a game launch, so the usual “buy now, wait for a sale, or play on Game Pass” choice becomes a simpler one: act now, or wait. The evidence says wait.

  • The 0/0 entries contain no achievements to unlock.
  • The only official confirmation covers four games. The other eight are sightings, and three of those rest on less-verified secondary reporting.
  • Jason Ronald, as reported by Windows Central, said past play won’t unlock achievements retroactively.

If you love these games and want to play them for fun, go ahead. Just don’t expect the time to pay off on your profile. If you were about to pick up a copy of a sighted game only to farm achievements, hold off until Microsoft names it.

What to do next

Watch news.xbox.com for an official announcement that names specific games and confirms achievements are active. When that post lands, replay that game, not before. If a 0/0 entry appeared in your achievement history, leave it alone. Nothing on your end needs fixing.

When support does go live, an Xbox Wireless Controller with a fresh set of rechargeable batteries or a charging station will matter more than usual. Achievement runs through older games can take a long time.

Wrapping Up

As of October 27, 2026, Microsoft has confirmed achievements for four Original Xbox games. Mythic Achievements and “add-on” labels are described in Insider notes, based on a research summary rather than a verbatim Microsoft statement. A wider wave of 0/0 listings has shown up early with no explanation.

The plumbing looks like it’s going in, but the water isn’t on. Our honest read: this is good news that arrived early.
